Facilities and Instruments

 
There are three teaching, ten well-equipped research laboratories, two Instrumental labs and one computer lab in the fields of analytical, inorganic, organic/geochemistry, physical/electrochemistry and spectroscopy in the department. Internet facility is available in all the teaching and research labs.  The main instruments available in the labs are; Polarimeter, Potentiometer, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, FTIR, Atomic Absorption spectrophotometer, GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC-UV, Muffle Furnaces, Oven, Speed Control Centrifuges and other Analytical Instruments.

Computer Lab

There is a general-purpose computer laboratory for students in the department containing 15 computers. All computers have Internet facility and are connected to the campus network at a speed of 100 Mbps. The lab is also used for teaching computer related courses.

Departmental Library                           

Departmental library contains more than 10,000 books and journals and is also affiliated with the National Library of Engineering Sciences.  Internet Wifi facility is also available in the Library for students use.

Research

Research is an essential part of the academic activities in the department. Highly qualified faculty, sophisticated research facilities and grants from university and government funding agencies have played a key role in the scientific development of department. Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry Designing

Synthesis, Characterization and Biological activities of various Inorganic compounds and study of their industrial uses
Phytochemistry

Phytochemical Study of medicinal plants their chemical components qualitatively and quantitatively, their medicinal uses for various health problems.
Functional Food Chemistry

Study of various foods in common use as a cure of various diseases, A replacement of medicine.
Toxicology

Toxic metal chemistry with respect to health problems and vital diseases and environmental pollution.
Fuel Cell Technology

Development of alternative energy resources, water splitting, use of H2O as fuel

Physical and electrochemistry

Electro-polymerization and electrochemistry at polymer coated surfaces, Electroplating, Industrial electrodes and electrode process Novel electrode materials for anodic oxidation, Semiconductor anodes for light-assisted pollutant degradation, Mechanistic organo-electrochemistry.

Organic/Geochemistry

Study of natural product chemistry and zeolite chemistry, analysis of various organic compounds in the environment.
Inorganic synthesis/coordination chemistry

Synthesis and characterization of new coordination compounds including coordination polymers and the study of their dynamic effects and mechanistic aspects using spectroscopic techniques, solid state chemistry.
Food chemistry

Analysis and characterization of major and minor components of food, their physiological aspects, authenticity and origin; Bioactive constituents of foods; effect of processing on the composition, quality and safety of foods; food additives and preservatives; food database
